(Review) word of the day: unique

The "shoe and tell" was a big hit today. Take a look at some of the photos:

Also, ask your child to tell you about the "Nail Challenge" where you have to balance a handful of nails on the top of another, vertical nail. It's a very cool trick.

As well, if you haven't had your child introduce you to "Black Magic", you'd better ask about that - it's another cool idea.

BIG NEWS on the phys. ed. frontier: the class shattered their paddle ball record. The class total for wall volleys is now 76! Amazing!

(Review) Word of the Day: cease

Reminders:
1. Spelling test tomorrow.
2. Tomorrow's Show and Tell theme will be "Shoe and Tell" - any footwear (sports related, baby booties, fancy shoes, photos of shoes, etc.) is welcome. Let's see how creative people can get!

Some students are still having trouble with subtraction using borrowing (for example, 3,004 - 268. If you have some time and would like to make a difference in your child's math abilities, reviewing subtracting questions like the sample would be helpful.

(Review) Word of the day: vacant

Reminders;
1. Tomorrow is library book exchange day.
2. Spelling homework is due this Thursday.
3. Some students will have more homework in the next little while, as we are beginning to move more quickly in Language Arts. Anyone who is not able to finish their written assignments within class time will now be asked to complete the assignment at home. Homework is ALWAYS due the next day, unless otherwise noted. Please check over your child's work before they return it to school - the extra time you spend with them and their schoolwork is invaluable. Nothing beats individual attention!

Swimming went very well last week. There will be some great photos coming soon to the students' journals.

I apologize for not posting to this blog lately. Reporting and interviewing time is uber busy, and I'm afraid I let this blog slip because of that. Please remember, incidentally, that anytime you have questions or comments regarding your child, you can drop in or call me at the school (the school's number is 4447 and my room extension is 204) or jot down a note in your child's agenda or email me (lindmorg@gyrd.ab.ca). I'll get back to you as soon as I can if you leave me messages.

Word of the day: vacant

Reminders:
1. Study for the spelling test...and practise those addition facts!
2. UNICEF envelopes!
3. The choir will be starting up again this year. Your child is bringing a note home regarding this. If they'd like to join, the choir practises will start next Wednesday at lunch. You'll need to sign and return the permission slip that's attached to the note if your child is joining choir.

Our class has been invited to attend the high school Remembrance Day assembly tomorrow morning, so if you arrive unexpectedly at the school and we're not here, check the high school gym.

We're instituting a new format for Show and Tell. We'll pick a different theme each week and the students are invited (but not required) to bring an item to show that demonstrates that theme. We'll hold the Show and Tells Friday afternoons, right after lunch. This week's theme (for tomorrow) is "Book and Tell", so the students who want to participate will bring a favourite or interesting book from home and tell us a bit about it.

Word of the day: subtle

Congratulations to Alex and George for winning immunity for this week's spelling lesson. Well done!

Reminders:
1. Please return your UNICEF envelopes asap, even if you didn't collect money. Thanks to all of you who did support this very worthwhile cause.
2. Candy is not allowed at school - save those Hallowe'en treats for at home!
3. Our school library, in conjunction with the public library, is having a book fair tomorrow and Wednesday. Books will be displayed in the library upstairs and will be on sale from 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Our class will be visiting the Book Fair tomorrow afternoon and the students will be able to make purchases then, as well. Because of the Book Fair, there will be no library book exchange for our class tomorrow.
4. The math sheet that was sent home today is due tomorrow. Thanks to all the parents who check over the problems with their children. The individual attention really pays dividends.
5. Remember to keep practising math addition (and subtraction) facts. The math links on the left side of this blog will take you to lots of sites that have games and activities for practising.
