November 13, 2013

Thanks to all the people who listened to the fabulous first graders reading their "Tab is a Cat" books!  Tonight's selection is "Tim and the Tin Man".  Enjoy!

We had a special pair of visitors to complement our November "Pig" theme this afternoon: Lynda Knight and her pet Piglet dropped by for a visit.  The students were very excited to meet Piglet and were full of questions (and their own pet stories!).  Stay tuned for a "Pig" booklet to arrive at your home soon!  (Boy, the home libraries just keep growing and growing and growing!)

Here are some photos of Piglet's visit.  Enjoy!

November 12, 2013

First grade students have begun a new at-home reading program.  They will be bringing home short phonetic books to read to an adult in their homes.  After your child has read to you, please jot down the book's title on the "Golden Envelope", add the date it was read, then return the book and its envelope to the school the next morning.  Thanks for your support with this.  It will help reinforce the learning that goes on here, PLUS you'll get all this literary entertainment from your child!

We attended a great caribou presentation this afternoon.  Ask your child what they can remember from the presentation.  (This photo of a caribou/human combo may help jog a few memories!)

November 7, 2013

Reminders for tomorrow:

1.  First grade students have their spelling test on the "all" family (plus the word "said").

2.  Book orders are due.

3.  We have a noon dismissal.

4.  Permission forms for the Legion's Remembrance Day contest wnet home today.  If you'd like your child's art to be entered in the contest, please return the form tomorrow.  Thanks.

5.  First grade students should read the "Up the Hill" book to and adult in their home.  (Several first graders can read even the back cover quite nicely - have your child give it a try!)

6.  Just a quick heads-up: our class is responsible for providing cookies for next week's cookie sale.  The sale will be next Thursday.  If you could send a couple dozen cookies to help out with the sale, that would be grand.

November 5, 2013

The first grade students have a list of reading sentences in the pockets of their agendas.  They can read the sentences to an adult in their home as their homework for tonight.  The first graders are also bringing home some cloze sentences (where they fill in missing letters).  We'll try to have one every day, so keep checking the agenda pockets!

Thanks to everyone who returned their Roots of Empathy permission forms today.  If you haven't returned the permission form, try to do so as soon as possible.  Thanks.

There is a cookie sale tomorrow.  Our class will also visit the book fair tomorrow afternoon.  If you'd like, you can send some money with your child so they can make a small purchase, or you can visit the book fair yourself and shop with your child.  The fair is in the library upstairs and runs from 8:30 am until 7:00 pm.

Class book orders are due this Friday.

We had our first visit with Baby Gage, our Roots of Empathy baby.  What a cutie! Here's a photo or two of our heartbreaker:

4.  Is Pam on the ship?

5.  This is my mat.

6.  The pup was on my lap.

7.  Are you in math?

8.  I am Nan.

9.  Nan is not in math.

10. This is my pup.

11. I am not big.

12. The pup was little.

13. The girl is Nan.

The Halloween costume photos are in the next posting - right below this one.
