The book orders for Grade Two students went home today. Book orders for both grades one and two are due Friday morning.

The first graders are reading The Dream tonight. Enjoy!

Connie Sawka, our sixth grade teacher, is retiring tomorrow. Students are invited to wear hockey or sport jerseys tomorrow, as a tribute to her. (Shh! It's a surprise! Don't tell Mrs. Sawka!)

We had a musical session with Gary Rasberry today - some fun! He'll be performing tomorrow in our school gym at 2:10, if anyone would like to watch along with our students and staff. As mentioned yesterday, he's planning a concert (free of charge, thanks to the Jasper Folk Festival people) at the high school tomorrow at 7:00. The concert will be in the school's foyer.

The first grade students wrote little pig stories and made some cute little pigs to go with them. Check out the photo roll below!

Sorry for not posting for a while; things have been pretty hectic with report cards and interviews. I'll try to be a better blogger!

Book orders went home with the first graders. I'll try to remember to send the order forms home with grade two students tomorrow. Please return any orders you'd care to make by this Friday morning.

There will be a noon dismissal for students this Friday.

We will be having a guest musician in the school this week; Gary Rasberry will be conducting workshops for classes, and giving a free concert this Thursday evening at 7:00 in the foyer of the high school. Thanks so much to the Jasper Folk Festival for sponsoring this!

If you are the kind of person who likes to plan ahead, you might want to know that our Grade One/Two class will be performing in the Thursday, December 21st concert. Mark your calendars!

Thanks to everyone who returned report card envelopes and comment sheets.  We've almost got all the envelopes and comment sheets back already!

Please know that if you need an interview time outside the ones offered online, I'm sure we can accommodate you. Just drop into the school and we'll set up a time. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone this week!

School photos and report cards went home with the students today. Please return the report card envelope (we reuse these for the next reporting period) and the signed Parent Comment sheet asap. There is no need to return the report card itself.

The first graders' spelling list this week concentrated on the "ay" sound. The book for the night is The Cake - more opportunity to practice the "Magic E" sounds. Enjoy!

November 9, 2017

Spelling test books went home with the first grade students today for parent signatures. Please return the books Monday morning. (There IS school Monday morning, contrary to what the school calendar says!)

The first grade students get a chance to reinforce the "magic e" rule with their newest reading envelope book. Enjoy!

Have a great long weekend, everyone!

November 8, 2017

Remember that the book fair in our school library is open until 5:30 today.

The first graders will have their spelling test tomorrow morning, as Friday is a non-student day.

The first graders' home reading is The Big Game.  The book reinforces the "magic e" rule, where an "e" at the end of a word jumps over a letter to make the word's vowel say its own name. For example, "pin" becomes "pine" when an "e" is attached, because the "e" jumps over the "n" to make the "i" say its own name. Similarly, hop becomes hope, and tap becomes tape.

November 6, 2017

The first graders will be working on "ow" words for this week's spelling list. The test this week will be this Thursday, as the school will be closed this Friday.

Forms will come home tomorrow explaining how to book a parent-teacher interview online. If you'd prefer to talk to me in person regarding an interview time, please feel free to do so. I'm usually not too hard to find!

Our Grade One class is going to the school's book fair in the library this Wednesday morning.  If you'd like to send some money for your child to make a purchase, you can do so Wednesday. The book fair is open to the public, as well, from 8:30 until 7:00 tomorrow (Tuesday the 7th) and from 8:30 until 5:00 on Wednesday. The second graders are visiting the book fair tomorrow morning with Mrs. Kongsrud.
