What a relief that the weather is still cold - think of all the extra wear we'll get out of our courdoroy pants. Haha.
It was great to see all the bright lights of Room Four again this morning - and to hear all the vacation stories!
Our word of the day today was resume. Our spelling list for this week was compiled by the students and has a spring theme. We have our first of two gymnastics sessions at the Activity Centre tomorrow afternoon from 1:50 until 2:30. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for this event. Our second session is set for Thursday afternoon. Thanks so much to Doctor Glover for sponsoring this activity.

Happy First Day of Spring! Legend has it that eggs are able to sit on their ends on the first day of spring. We tried it in our class and it worked! As I write this, there are still 5 eggs balanced on their ends on the carpet at the side of the class.
We started off the week making a rubber egg. If you soak an egg in vinegar overnight, its shell will dissolve (shades of our science presentation last week) and the "rubberized" membrane will remain. We tried dropping the egg from successively higher heights and discovered it could withstand a fall from 20 cm, but not from 25cm.
I was mistaken about Phoebe's second egg hatching. The second egg was actually removed from the nest because it was non-viable. An orphaned baby was placed in the nest and Mama Phoebe took to it right away! Click on the link here to see the transfer of the baby to its new nest.

We also proved how strong egg shells can be. If you push on the two ends of a raw egg - and I mean push as hard as you can - you will not be able to break the egg. All the mighty muscles of our class tried it and NO ONE could break the egg. (If you try this at home, make sure the egg has no cracks in it before you push on it.)

Report cards went home today - yeehaw! There is no need to return the report card itself, but please send back the envelope and the comment and interview sheets.
Remember that this Wednesday afternoon we are attending a "Bubble, Bubble" presentation. Any parents who'd like to volunteer with this are most welcome. The presentation for our class starts at 2:15.
Phoebe's second egg has hatched! Check out the hummingbird link at the side.

Meet at the Activity Centre gym at 7:25 tonight if you're going to be singing with us.
If this is March coming in like a lion, we should be in for a nice ending to the month!
