Keep up the great golden envelope reading, everyone! Tonight's envelope stresses and reviews the "sh" sound. Some of the students have been remarking that they're finding the stories easy, and they're reading them with more expression - great to see!

Thanks to everyone who returned the signed skating permission forms. Hopefully the ice will hold out for next Wednesday afternoon ...

There will be a showing of the movie Homeward Bound in the gym tomorrow after school. If your child wants to attend, they should bring a toonie and meet in the gym at 3:30.

Remember that there will be a snack sale tomorrow at recess.

Remember that this Friday we are having a Stuffy and Tell Day where the children will bring a stuffy to school and tell us all about it!

Here are some reminders/notifications about upcoming events:

There will be a cookie/snack sale this Thursday morning at recess. Raid those quarter collections again!

This Friday we will have a Stuffy and Tell Day, where both the first and second graders are supposed to bring a stuffed animal/character from home and tell about it.

Next Monday the student council is sponsoring a Dress as a Storybook Character Day. Students are invited (but not required!) to dress as a character from a story, or to dress in something that represents Canada.

Please have all skating permission forms in by this Friday. If you need a replacement form, let me know and I'll round one up for you.  Thanks.

The first graders' book is all about the "X" today. As well, it reinforces all the rules and word families we've covered to date. Thanks so much for your support at home with the golden envelope reading. The more the students read, the better they get!

Thanks to everyone who supported our "Winterruption Day" today by sending summery objects/clothing with their children. Here is some photo evidence of our Winterruption Day. Enjoy!

Please sign and return the spelling test books that went home today.

Also, the first graders have a note/permission form in their golden envelopes. The note gives information regarding a upcoming school-wide skating activity at Jasper Park Lodge. Please sign and return the form asap.

It's great to see so many people diving into the reading challenge of the 2017 Read-a-thon! Keep up the at-home reading, everyone! (If you didn't get a Read-a-thon recording sheet, have your child ask me for one tomorrow.)

There will be a snack sale tomorrow at recess. Dig out those quarters, everyone!

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help with our school's Brain Boost program. We really appreciate your efforts and time!

Remember that this Friday we are having a Winterruption Day (for Grade One in the morning and for Grade Two in the afternoon). Please send something "summery" for your child to wear in class and something that represents summer for a Show and Tell experience.  Thanks!

The students brought home a Read-a-thon sheet in their agendas today. We set a goal of reading 100 minutes this week (20 minutes a day for Monday - Friday). Parents are asked to initial the days after the children have read, to help their children set new goals each week, and to return the completed Read-a-thon sheet to school at the end of the month. Thanks for your support with this!

We are planning a Winterruption Day here in Room Four this Friday. Students are invited to bring something summery to wear, and to bring an object or picture that represents something summery (a beachball? a kite? a tennis racquet?)  We're going to have a Summer Show and Tell with the items they bring; it should help chase away any ugly winter blues, at least for a day!

We're on review mode for Grade Two vocabulary today. The review word of the day is benevolent.

Grade One: the book for today has lots of opportunities to review basic sight words and the "Two vowels go walking" rule again. Enjoy!

Study for tomorrow's spelling tests, everyone!

The second grade word of the day for yesterday was intriguing. Today's word was console.

The first grade students have a book order form in their golden envelopes. If you're planning to order anything, please return the completed form and payment tomorrow.

The first graders' golden envelope book this evening is "Spot". Please pay special attention to the "Magic E" words and the "When two vowels go walking" words.

Please remember to label all your child's clothing - including individual mittens. Thanks!

Welcome back, everyone! It was great to hear all the holiday stories - and to read them, as both first and second graders wrote about their vacations in their school journals.

The word of the day for second graders is sobriquet. (I only recently learned this word myself!)

The first graders have a new golden envelope book today titled Slide. The story has reviews of the "magic e" rule, and the "When 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and it says its own name" rule, as well. Enjoy!
