Your child is bringing home literature on the upcoming Provincial Achievement tests (PATs) today. The note and booklet give some information on the tests, including the types of tests and the dates they are written. We've begun writing some practise PAT questions in Math. Today's math booklets have been sent home - please go over the questions with your child. Your explanations regarding the questions may differ from the ones we talked about in class, but that's okay. We always stress that there often is more than one way to solve a problem, and that good thinkers (which is what good math students are!) should practise finding more than one route to the correct answer.
As well, your child is bringing home a rough draft of a story today. To compliment our preparation for the story writing portion of the PATs, please go over the story with your child, following the guidelines on the back of today's note. Thanks!

Thanks to the people who brought the neat footwear for today's "Shoe and Tell"!!!
Reminders:
1. Practise multiplication facts
2. Enjoy the lovely weekend!
I've added a video to compliment today's story from Language Arts. (We read a story about a dog who, jealous of the time his owner was spending with a skateboard, secretly buried the skateboard. When his transgression was discovered, it was suggested that his owner teach him how to skateboard so that the dual loves of Dog and Skateboarding would be married.) These dogs are truly amazing! Enjoy!

I've attached a link to the Edmonton Journal's web cam on the nesting Canada goose. Just click on the "Goose Cam" link at the side. This is an excellent compliment to the Grade Three Life Cycles component from the science curriculum.

For today's Head Scratcher, see if you can figure out why, in the game we played today, you like sweets but not candy, you like fall but not autumn, and you like carrots, broccoli, and apples, but not fruits or vegetables. (If you've already figured out the answer, try playing the game with someone else in your house.)
We talked about loons today, so I dug out this video of their call. Enjoy!
And here's some advice on how to try to imitate the loon's call:
Finally, here's a video of the loon displaying. (We talked about this today, as well.)
