June 28, 2017

It's too bad that we couldn't control the rain today; we had to cancel our playground tour. However, we did get a lot of room cleaning done! Everything from desks and lockers should have gone home today, including the students' file folders with their keepsake journals. Please get ready to gush over the wonderful work your child did in their journal this school year!

Tomorrow the students will have an early recess, then walk over to the Activity Center for the Grade Six "Walkdown". Students will be dismissed from the school shortly after the end of the Walkdown; report cards will be distributed then.

I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for sending me such great first and second grade students this year. It's been a pleasure watching all your children grow and learn; what a privilege to have been part of their educational journeys.

Have a wonderful summer, everyone!

Happy Last Tuesday of the 2017 school year!  We'll be doing a classroom clean-up tomorrow, so expect your child to bring home school supplies and projects at the end of the day. I'll also send home the first graders' spider plants. They currently live in glasses of water (and are quite happy to remain in their liquid homes) so you may want to help with the plant transportation tomorrow. Report cards will go home Thursday at lunch.

Remember that we have our playground tour tomorrow afternoon. If you volunteered to come along with us, you can meet in Room Four right after the bell to come into the school. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather tomorrow, and that they have a water bottle to bring along. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who sent treats and volunteered to help out at our pool party this afternoon. We really appreciate the time and effort you gave to us!

Tomorrow afternoon is the school's summer fun event. Students are likely to be a little wet, so you might like you'd to send clothing that accommodates that. As well, please be aware that the students will be outside all afternoon, so you may want to apply sunscreen at home. There will be a water balloon throw (at the school staff!) tomorrow afternoon. The price of a water balloon is a donation to the Food Bank. Sounds like fun - and a great way to generate supplies for our Food Bank!

Please remember that Wednesday afternoon we will be having our playground tour. If you haven't already signed and returned the permission form for this, please do so asap. Thanks!

The first graders all learned how to stand on their hands - for at least 20 seconds this morning! It's true! Ask your child to demonstrate!

June 23, 2017

Thanks to everyone who returned the playground tour permission forms. If you still have yours at home, please return it asap.

Remember that we will be swimming Monday afternoon at the aquatic center.  Please send swimming gear with your child for this event. Parents who have volunteered to help supervise can meet us at the pool or join us in the class at 1:05 to walk over with us. Please remember that you are most welcome to pick your child up at the pool at the end of the day, but that we need you to check in with your child's teacher if you do. Any students not picked up at the pool will walk back to the school with the teachers.

Anyone who'd like to send something for our treat table at the pool is most welcome to do so, with our thanks and appreciation!

Remember, if you've got plaid, wear it for Dad tomorrow!

Second graders, please study for your final spelling test of the year.

Thanks to everyone who sent wrapping paper for journal covers. If you haven't already sent some, please do so asap. Thanks.

Class photos went home with the first graders today. I'm sorry - I forgot to send them with the Grade Two students. I'll try to send them home tomorrow ...

The school will be participating in a "Plaid for Dad Day" this Friday. If your child has something plaid to wear (even a bandana!), he/she is invited to wear it this Friday.

We've had our first wrapping paper arrive, and I've used it to show what the journal covers will look like when they're wrapped up. Behold! Please try to send some wrapping paper for your child's journal asap. Thanks!

Every June I make journal covers for my class. I typically use gift wrap to make the covers. If you have a  roll of wrap that you'd like to send for your child's cover, please do so asap, and I'll make sure to use it to beautify your child's keepsake journal for 2016-2017.

Thanks!

The first graders are bringing home a book order form today. If you'd like to order anything, please return the form and payment by this Friday. This will be our last book order this year.

Thanks to everyone who participated in Wacky Walking Wednesday this year, and to everyone who sent a towel or yoga mat for our yoga event today.

June 6, 2017

Tomorrow is Wacky Walking Wednesday! Students are challenged to come to school under their own power - not by vehicle! Some students think of very creative ways to do this: in a wheelbarrow? on a pogo stick? on a decorated bicycle? Let's see how many people can manage to arrive at school without using a car - or any other gas-powered vehicle tomorrow ...

Mrs. Sawka's class is raising money for Plan Canada by selling cloth bags - for $5.00 a bag. If you'd like to purchase a bag, they'll be on sale in front of the office at recess tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday.

Also, Mrs. MacDonald has organized a school-wide yoga event for our class tomorrow - right after recess. Please send your child with a towel or mat to spread on the ground, as we'll be holding this event outside.
