Here we go: into the last gasps of May already. Where has the time gone?
Thanks to everyone who returned spelling test books and energy cube books today. I'll watch for the rest of the books to be returned soon.
This Thursday there will be a group picture with our school and the high school, to help celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. Please have your child wear a red top, if possible, for this photo.
This Friday is Class Picture Day! Woop Woop! We practised our smiles with the grade one students here in Room Four last Friday morning. (We'll keep working on it ... we were thinking the teeth needed a little cleaning first ... Check out our smile model below.)

Please sign and return the spelling test books asap. Thanks.
The Energy Cube Run at Centennial Park was a big hit! It looks like our second grade class is full of great athletes! The runners - and the weather - were outstanding!
Enjoy May's last weekend!

Study for tomorrow's spelling tests!
Thanks to Sadie's mom (again!) for doing the Brain Boost program!
We will be having a school-wide Energy Cube challenge tomorrow afternoon: running around Centennial Park! Please send your child with appropriate footwear, and a water bottle, and apply sunscreen at home if you feel the day will warrant UV protection. Thanks!
Please remember that this will be our last week of the Energy Cube Challenge and that the booklets should return to school next Monday morning. Thanks!

What a change in the weather today! Sheesh!
Thanks so much to Niko's mom and Hailey's mom for helping out with Brain Boost today. We really appreciate you - and the brain boost!
This is the final week of the school's energy cube challenge; please try to send your child's energy cube record to school asap if you haven't already done so. I'll return the booklets the same day they arrive at school, so that your child can keep on collecting cubes at home.

Reminders for Friday:
1.Study for the spelling test.
2. Students will be dismissed at noon.
3. It's Twin Day tomorrow! If you haven't got a "twin", dress in something blue (or a dark colour) on the bottom and white on the top.
4. We're having our Jump Rope for Heart skipping event tomorrow after recess. Cross your fingers for good weather!

Thanks so much to Carson's mom and Dustin's mom for looking after Brain Boost for our school - two days in a row! I know it's not easy to find the time to do this job. Please know that your efforts are really appreciated!
Here are some reminders for the upcoming week:
1. There is a noon dismissal for the students this Friday.
2. The student council is sponsoring a Twin Day this Friday. The idea is to find another person and plan to dress in the same clothing, or wear the same hair ... something to make you look like a twin! If anyone can't find a partner to "twin" with, everyone in Room Four is invited to wear something blue on the bottom (pants, a skirt, shorts, etc.) and something white on the top. Who knows? Maybe we'll all look like twins!
Mrs. Lawson's Kindergarten/Grade One class is having a cookie/snack sale this Thursday at recess. (I'm sure Mrs. Lawson has sent home a note regarding this already.) The first grade students are going to be looking after the recess sale with me, in the front foyer of the school. Please send your contributions to the sale to our classroom (Room Four) first thing in the morning this Thursday. Thanks!
Freewheel Cycle is having their annual free bike check-up tomorrow after school in the area near the playground. Your child is welcome to bring their bike for a once-over from the good people at Freewheel. Thanks, Freewheel team!
The school will be participating in a Jump Rope for Heart skipping event this Friday morning. If you'd like to contribute to this fund-raiser, you can pick up a pledge sheet from the office.
That should about do it for today. Just one final thought: if anyone can locate the person in charge of this May weather, please ask them to warm things up a bit! Enough cold air is enough!

Spelling tests went home today for parent signatures. Please send the books back to school Monday morning. Thanks.
Thanks, as well, to our carrot peelers and choppers for this morning: Carter D's mom and dad and Carter S's mom. It's great to have such wonderful support for our school's brain boost program!
Our grade one class will be helping out with Mrs. Lawson's cookie/snack sale next Thursday. The first graders will be selling cookies/snacks on the school's main floor at recess, and the kindergarten room will look after sales at the top of the high ground stairs. Mrs. Lawson will be sending info home about the cookie/snack sale next week, I'm sure.
Our school will be participating in a Jump Rope for Heart fund-raiser next Friday morning. If you'd like to support this cause, please contact the office to pick up donation information. (Everyone will be skipping, regardless of whether or not they have been a fund-raiser.)
We had great anti-bullying presentations this morning, for both first and second grade. The students were very engaged and receptive to ideas about how to combat bullies and bullying - great to see and to report.
If' you'd like some more info on the Frisbee Rob demonstrations that we saw yesterday, you can go to www.unpluggd.com or google Frisbee Rob's name.

Thanks to Carter S., and his mom, and his dad, AND his brother for looking after brain boost for us today! What a great family!
Remember that tomorrow the students are going to Lake Annette for our school-wide Vitamin N Day. I will be leaving with the grade two students at 11:00. (The first graders will leave with Mrs. Lawson a bit later in the morning; I'm sure she's filled you in on everything.) The second graders are leaving Lake Annette at 2:00 to return to the school, so we'll be back in plenty of time for regular dismissal. Thanks so much to Yuan's mom and dad for volunteering to help supervise our class. We really appreciate your time and efforts!

We are going to have to buy Sarah's mom a prize for all the brain boost prep she's been doing; she was at it again this morning! Thanks so much, Mrs. P!
Just a reminder that we will be going to Lake Annette this Thursday. (A reminder note from Mrs. Campbell should be in your emails. Anyone who has not signed up for email delivery of school newsletters/notices will get a paper copy of the reminder tomorrow.)
Also, remember that tomorrow at lunch (12:30) there will be a free session in the gym on something called "Body Love". (The stress ball craft went over very well today!)

The first grade students were all given a tree to plant today. They were quite excited to get their seedlings; some students had even named their baby tree! The seedlings' bags have planting instructions on them. We talked about how this tree will grow with the students and is like a celebration of and for the future. Happy planting!
The first grade students will be going on a crocus hunt along the town trail tomorrow morning (weather permitting, of course). We'll leave shortly after we take morning attendance and will be back before recess. Please have your child dress appropriately for this event. Thanks.
Both first and second graders have a spelling test tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who sported hats today; we had a nice variety of head gear here in Room Four!
The first grade students are bringing home a note today regarding a school event at Lake Annette next Thursday. Please sign and return the slip attached to the note if your child has permission to participate in the event. (Thanks to all the second grade students who have already returned their permission slips.)

I forgot to mention to the class, or to have the students write it in their agendas: tomorrow is "Hats on for Mental Health Day". Dig out a hat to wear in class tomorrow to show your support for people who are struggling with mental health issues!
Also, thanks so much to Carter D's mom and to Matthew's mom for working on the school's Brain Boost program; we really appreciate your time and efforts!

Well, here we are in the merry, merry month of May already! Whew!
The students are bringing home some information on an activity initiative that our school launched today. It's all about energy cubes; there is information on the program in your child's agenda or backpack. Basically, the students are all encouraged to get active - play soccer, go swimming, take a walk, ride a bike ... for at least 15 minutes every day. For each 15 minute chunk of time that they're active, they colour in one energy cube in the booklet they brought home. (Sorry - there is no English version of the book; it's just in French.) If a family member does the activity with them, they can colour in cubes for that family member as well. Please send the books to school each Monday morning, so we can tally everyone's progress. Thanks!
