October 11, 2016

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving weekend and got their fill of turkey and all the trimmings!
It was a chilly start to our week today - minus 9 on the thermometer at my house.  Brrr. Please ensure that all the warm clothing you're sending to school with your child has their name CLEARLY written inside; lost items can be returned to owners much more quickly when names are inside.

There is an open house tonight at the fire hall - from 6:00 until 7:30. There should be lots of games and activities - as well as food, I understand - at the event. What great weather for it!

Our room was transformed into a spooky one over the weekend; the class had some fun exploring all the Hallowe'en decorations. Watch for some spooky books to come home soon in Grade One!

Thanks to everyone who sent back signed spelling test books. These test books will typically come home every Friday and should come back to school every Monday.

Remember to have your first grade child read the golden envelope book to you tonight, parents! Also, if you have time, try to do some counting with them. Some of the first graders get stuck when counting to 100 - especially when entering a new set of 10 - going from 29 to 30 or from 79 to 80, for example.

Book orders for Grade One went home today and are due back this Friday.
